According to the standard, reinforced concrete elements are quantified based on the actual volume of concrete removed during demolition. Measurements are taken after separating reinforcement bars if these are accounted for individually. The volume calculation relies on the concrete’s dimensions prior to demolition or from the debris. When dismantling (careful removal without damage), measurements reflect the intact quantity removed. Reinforcement bars are measured separately by weight or length to avoid duplication.

Steel and iron components must be measured by weight in kilograms. Their weight is typically determined using standard weight tables for steel sections, unless actual weights are known. Measurements for demolition and dismantling operations are recorded separately, and steel intended for reinstallation is measured distinctly. Careful removal of steel during dismantling is emphasized to prevent damage.

The code mandates separate measurement for works under special conditions like underwater, muddy, foul environments, tidal zones, or snowy areas. For tidal works, it requires recording high and low water marks to define conditions clearly. Specific provisions cover pumping in spring-affected areas. Measurements should be staged with height or depth referenced to a defined datum to ensure clarity and accuracy.

The standard specifies that dust and nuisance control measures must be explicitly stated in contracts or work orders where required. Precautions include protecting the public and adjacent properties, typically through water spraying, misting, erecting temporary enclosures or dust screens, and controlled dismantling methods to minimize airborne dust. Use of personal protective equipment and scheduling work to reduce impact are also advised.

Serviceable materials must be separated from waste debris and stacked within 100 meters of the site. Removal of materials beyond this distance is measured separately. The shortest practicable route is used to measure transport distances. Reinforcement steel that is cleaned and salvaged is measured by weight. Demolition and dismantling operations are recorded distinctly to reflect differences in handling and valuation.
